Georgia State finds out Sun Belt opponents

1stgame

Georgia State’s football team doesn’t yet know the dates of its Sun Belt Conference games, but it found out on Friday who it will play and where because the conference released each team’s opponents for the 2016 season.

Dropping off Georgia State’s conference schedule are New Mexico State and Louisiana-Lafayette. They will be replaced by a game at Idaho and at home against Louisiana-Monroe. The Vandals were 4-8 overall, 3-5 in the Sun Belt last year. The Warhawks went 2-11, 1-7 and replaced coach Todd Berry with Matt Viator.

Remaining on the conference schedule are home games against Arkansas State (9-4, 8-0), Georgia Southern (9-4, 6-2) and Texas State (3-9, 2-6), which replaced Dennis Franchione with Everett Withers.

Conference road games are at Appalachian State (11-2, 7-1), South Alabama (5-7, 3-5), and Troy (4-8, 3-5).

The dates of the conference games will be announced March 1.

Georgia State went 6-7 overall, 5-3 in the Sun Belt and appeared in its first bowl game last season. The Panthers return seven starters on offense, including all-conference receivers Robert Davis and Penny  Hart and all-conference tight end Joel Ruiz, and nine starters on defense, including all-conference performers Shawanye Lawrence, Chandon Sullivan Bobby Baker and Alonzo McGee.
