Georgia State will open its men’s basketball season by hosting Oglethorpe at 7 tonight at the GSU Sports Arena.

Last year

Georgia State went 25-10, winning the Sun Belt’s regular season and tournament titles. The Panthers famously defeated Baylor in the second round of the NCAA tournament, before losing to Xavier in the third round.

Who left?

Leading scorer R.J. Hunter, second-leading scorer Ryan Harrow, starting guard Ryann Green and starting center Curtis Washington.

Who returned?

Starting forwards Markus Crider and T.J. Shipes, as well as guards Kevin Ware (7.6 points per game last year) and Isaiah Dennis, forwards Jordan Session and Jalen Brown.

Who are the new faces?

Transfers Jeremy Hollowell (Indiana) and Isaiah Williams (Samford) will debut, as well as freshmen Jeff Thomas and Malik Benlevi. I’ll be curious to see if freshman guard Austin Donaldson will play.

Hollowell, Williams, Benlvei and Thomas are all offensive-minded players.

Is it on the radio?

Yes. 1340AM. Dave Cohen, Rodney Turner and Brandon Leak will be your hosts.

Cool facts

Georgia State is one of 20 programs to win at least 25 games the past two seasons.

Shipes and Crider have played in 99 games. If they play in 27 more they will eclipse the school record of 126 played.
