Georgia Southern calling for a “whiteout” at Georgia State

In a first that I’ve heard of, a visiting team is calling for a “whiteout” in another team’s stadium.

Georgia Southern is asking that its fans wear white to the Georgia Dome for next week’s game against host Georgia State.

It will be the first meeting in football between the two schools.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m.

“I play South Alabama this weekend, that’s what I’m worried about,” Georgia State (1-5, 0-3 Sun Belt) coach Trent Miles said. The Panthers and Jags will start at 7:30 p.m. in Mobile.

The Eagles (5-2, 4-0 Sun Belt) are off this week.

Asking fans to wear a specific color is an oft-used device by coaches and marketing departments to try to excite and unify fans. Until now, it’s almost always done by the home team.

Update: a reader said that Florida did a “White Out” at Tennessee and that Southern did a “Blue Out” at Tech this year, so it has been done before.

Georgia State fans, what do you think about this tactic by the Eagles?
